Negotiations update – November 8, 2024

On Friday, November 8, Eaton provided an updated last, best and final offer to the UAW Local 475. Here is a summary of the enhancements to Eaton’s offer:
  • The Union requested Eaton to increase the lump sum payment to $5,000. Eaton has offered to increase the lump sum payment from $3,900 to $4,500.
  • The Union sought to increase wages by 0.5% in two years of the CBA (a 1% total increase). Eaton’s offer provides a .5% increase to the general wages in September 2025. The overall general wage increases are as follows:

Effective date of the agreement: 4%

          2/24/2025: 3%
          9/4/2025: 3.5%
          9/4/2026: 3.5%
          9/4/2027: 3%

  • We modified the date for the enhanced pension multiplier so that the increase would begin for retirements on or after November 15, the anticipated acceptance date.

We continue to hire and have had 42 individuals accept positions as permanent replacements for N2, C2, N1 and F14 roles. However, we have delayed the start of permanent replacements until November 18, 2024. We view this offer as our last chance to reach an agreement before permanent replacements begin work—at which point we would not displace them to make room for employees who wish to return to work.

If this offer is accepted on or before November 13, 2024, we would agree that all employees can return to their prior position without delay. If the offer is not accepted by that deadline, we will not displace a permanent replacement employee to make room for an employee who wishes to return from a strike.

If I want to return to work, who should I contact?

Contact Carrie Skinner, HR manager, at 262-290-8238 or carrierskinner@eaton.com to work out the details of your return so that your badge and computer access can be restored.

Can Eaton legally hire permanent replacement workers? Isn’t my job protected while I am on strike?

Yes, Eaton can legally hire permanent replacement workers. There is a difference between being fired and being “permanently replaced.” If you seek to return to work and we do not have any available work at that time because your position has been filled by a permanent replacement, you will be placed on a preferential hiring list. If an opening later becomes available, Eaton would refer to the preferential hiring list. You may then return to work from the hiring list only once a vacancy becomes available that you are qualified to work.

If I return to work, how quickly will my benefits be reinstated?

Your benefits will be reinstated on your first day back to work.

When the Union returns to work after the strike, how can the Union retaliate against employees who chose to cross the picket line?

The Union and its representatives are legally prohibited from harassing, coercing and intimidating you because you exercise your right to cross the picket line and return to work. It is your legal right to choose to work during the strike, just as it is your right to choose to engage in a lawful work stoppage.

Eaton has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or retaliation. The Union cannot unilaterally change your seniority, job classification or any other conditions of employment with Eaton.

In summary, you will not be subjected to any harassment, intimidation, or interference from performing your job regardless of whether you choose to strike or choose to work.
