Product series ratings

This series ratings information is for Eaton panelboards, switchboards, metering and loadcenters.

UL Product IQ

The UL Product IQ website provides each branch breaker series ratings. These combinations are pulled from the UL Approved "Sortable Series Rating Spreadsheet, UL E7819" and are only specified in a different format (NOTE: The site requires a user to register on UL's website to access the information. The process is simple and free.)

ATTENTION: While the Product IQ and excel file combinations are certified by UL, they may not yet have been validated in the respective enclosures. Please check "Metering and Loadcenter" or "Panelbard & Switchboard" to determine if this combination may be sold.

What are series ratings?

See the generic example. The “Main” Overcurrent Protective Devices (OCPD) within a power distribution system, will have a marked interrupting rating equal to, or greater than, the available fault current (AFC). However, an additional “branch” circuit breaker may be connected on the load side of the OCPD, with a lower marked interrupting rating, as long as the Main and Branch combination of breakers can safely interrupt the AFC, and are listed by UL.

Combinations that satisfy these requirements can be found in the metering and loadcenters catalogs or the panelboard and switchboard manual.

3 Tier Rendition

Advantages

  • The circuit will be interrupted safely at least once
  • Lower cost when comparing to fully rated devices and selectively coordinated devices

Disadvantages

  • Main or branch breaker, or both may need to be replaced
  • Either one of the breaker on the system could trip, the system is not designed to selectively trip

Best Application

  • Locations where continuous power is not as critical (residential, certain factories, etc)
